First of all, Fantasy Football is pure luck, but it's an escape for us who love the game! My advice is draft running backs first. Y ou can't go wrong with two stud running backs. Yo can always draft a decent quarterback in the 5th or 6th rounds. quarterbacks like Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Peyton Manning are surely to go in the 1st round, which leaves atleast 3 quality running backs on the draft board.
Quarterbacks like Mark Sanchez, Ben Rothlisberger, and Matt Schuab can bring you some decent points, where as a Reggie Bush, or a Ladanian Tomlinson will give you low points, so back to the begining, draft quality running backs with your 1st two picks. Wide recievers are a dime a dozen as well. Some people like to draft big name recievers, but remember, if that big name reciever is the best on his respected team, he will probably draw alot of double coverage, which leaves the average reciever on man to man coverage. Alot of average recievers get big fantasy points due to man to man coverage. I personally would draft my recievers in the 3rd and 4th rounds.
Tightends, are a little more tricky, seeing how there are a handful of quality tightends out there, so good luck on that one. A defense is the luck of the draw. Research how a defense did last year. Fewest points allowed, turnovers, quarterback sacks, special team play, etc.
Kickers, need i say more? Like peyton Manning said a few years ago, they are idiot kickers....As the season goes on, you can always pick up free agent kickers if yours isn't doing so well.
It's always good to have a decent back up for your key positions. Example: Quarterback, Runningback, And Wide receiver. Personally, i keep 2 quarterbacks on my roster at all times. If you have to pull your starter one week to build up points, then so be it. Everyone has a bad day at the office from time to time. Depending on your draft, and the amount of people in your league, your line up and bench should look like this.
1 Quarterback
2 Runningbacks
3 Wide Receivers
1 Tightend
1 Kicker
1 Defense
5 Bench players
Bench players can be any position you want, but remember, your skill positions are vital to your points. Having a Quarterback, 2 Runningbacks, and 2 Wide receivers is always a good idea! Your Kicker and Defense are expendable, there are always an abundance of kickers out there that can deliver points on any given Sunday. Defense on the other hand is a little tricky, but with good study habits, and a little luck, you can always find a defense that can atleast deliver 10 points to your team.
Bye weeks are a vital week to your players. First, you have have to do some switching and wheeling and dealing with other teams, or you can try your luck in the free agent market to find skill players when your starters are on a bye. This is assuming that you don't have a back up for the particular position that's on the bye. So, we go back to what i mentioned in a previous paragraph, Draft a decent back up for your skill positions so you don't have to scramble during the season to replace your starter.
If you happen to join an online league, Example, Nfl dot com or any ot the others, you can plan on atleast 3 owners not tracking their teams. Why join a league if you're not gonna follow your team? What i find is, people lose interest, or don't know enough about football to follow it. If you can, try and get together with atleast 10 buddies, and start your own league. There is computer software that you can install that will track all the stats of every player, including free agents. All you have to do, once a commissioner is chosen, is to install the teams into the software, and poof, the rest is done for you.
Fantasyfootball.com is a good place to buy the software from. The software kits usually run about $75 to $ 100. Yo can easily compensate for the cost if you start a monitary league. Just simply add a few extra dollars to the cost of owning a team, and you have the software paid for.
In my next blog, i will be tracking certain players, sleepers, and free agents. I will so you certain key players that may be a good fit for your particular team, so stay tuned into fantasy football tips for all of your fantasy football needs. Maybe i can help you build a championship team.....Good luck!
